What even is self care? Enneagram learnings.

Wow have I got a story for you…. You know me – always have a good yarn to tell but also as always you will have lots of learnings.

I just spent the last 4 days down at Byron Bay on a “girls in business”  trip away. It was phenomenal and I had so much growth.

It rained on and off the whole time! It was either over-cast or raining and cold – we barely saw the sun! Our bikinis did not even exit our suitcases let alone get wet!

But as always with every perceived negative there is a perceived positive.

Because of the terrible weather – we got to spend lots of time together in our unit.

Because of spending time in our unit – we were able to bond and talk about some pretty seep stuff

Because we were talking about deep stuff – we ended up learning about the ancient philosophical teachings of the “Enneagram” where your personality is categorized into 9 different archetypes (and 27 sub categories).

 It was MIND BLOWING!!!

After much self contemplation, it came as no surprise that I was a typical “2” personality type.

Twos are empathetic, sincere, and warm-hearted. They are friendly, generous, and self-sacrificing, but can also be sentimental, flattering, and people-pleasing. They are well-meaning and driven to be close to others, but can slip into doing things for others in order to be needed. They typically have problems with possessiveness and with acknowledging their own needs.

Although this was no surprise - what my huge ah ha moment was – Although I LOVE to serve and give, I didn’t realise how much I was sacrificing myself to please others.

I thought I practiced self-care – I exercise regularly, look after myself, drink cacao, go for massages, give myself time out and all the things…

BUT

It was the SMALL things that were lacking… I was “doing and being there” for others at the expense of myself. I was constantly putting others needs before my own. It was subtle but it was there….

And I thought I had rid myself of people pleasing traits. Mmmmm apparently not…

I have caught myself so many times since then going to do something at the expense of myself. They were only small things but each time, a little bit was poured out of my energetic cup.

My beautiful KunYin coach Taya talked me through this and I wanted to share a little exercise I learnt when it comes to self care…
