Shaking like a Leaf

I’ve always wondered where this saying comes from? I mean – I get what it means – to shake when you are scared, anxious, frightened or cold but where did that saying come from?

Even Doctor Google couldn’t explain this one – except for a lame suggestion it came from a 13th-century writer. Still doesn’t tell me why a leaf would shake in fear? LOL

Seriously … lame.

Butt shaking like a leaf is a common thing and we all do it – it’s something we do it after a shock or when something goes down.

I know from experience – it happens to me on occasion – quite regularly the thing will “go down” right after I am on an a high. I am cruising along, all guns blazing thinking I got this life and business thing down pat (another lame historical origin!) and then BAM…. Something happens.

So what do you do?

I know the first thing we want to do is fall in a heap and maybe put the doona over our heads. Now this might be a nice option for the first 5 minutes but we need some other strategies to get through the kick-in-the-guts experiences that are part of life and biz.

How much more freeing would it be if you could take your head back out from the doona and take back some form of control? I can tell you that hiding under the doona is only comforting for a small amount of time. At some stage, you need to stick your head back out and face your life again.
