Put It Down. Look Up.

Reclaiming Presence in Life and Business Through Soul-Led Strategy

This past weekend, I had a moment of truth. One of those raw, uncomfortable wake-up calls that quietly demand change—not through shame, but through sheer clarity.

I was watching my girls—aged 9 and 12—move around the house, eyes fixed on their devices, zoning out of the world around them. Short fuses. Constant scrolling. Disconnection disguised as entertainment. And then I noticed myself doing the exact same thing.

Picking up my phone without even realising. Mindlessly checking messages. Scrolling through social media instead of soaking in the laughter of my children or the beauty of the weekend sun outside.

I was with my kids, but I wasn’t with them.

So, we did something radical. We all did.

We had a device-free weekend.

No screens. No scrolling. No distractions.

And what happened was magic.

The Power of Presence: A Personal Reset

Without our devices, something shifted almost instantly.

The girls became playful again. They dug out the old games, played hide and seek, got sweaty and silly with volleyball in the backyard with the neighbours. We had an impromptu family game of touch football. We giggled, we reconnected, we simply were together.

I picked up a book I couldn’t put down and found myself lost in its pages instead of lost in my phone.

But more than that—my nervous system felt calm. My mind was still. I felt grounded and truly present for the first time in what felt like weeks.

There was no chaos to manage. No tabs open in my brain. Just a quiet, beautiful sense of being right where I was supposed to be.

The Hidden Cost of Constant Distraction

Here’s what most of us forget: being “on” all the time—especially on our devices—doesn’t just distract us, it disregulates us.

Science shows that every notification, scroll, or micro-task releases a small hit of dopamine. It’s addictive. And it keeps our nervous systems in a mild, ongoing state of alert. Over time, this “always-on” state depletes our focus, patience, and ability to stay calm and grounded.

In children, this often shows up as restlessness, irritability, or meltdowns. In adults, it can look like fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and chronic overstimulation.

And when your nervous system is constantly in a state of alertness, when you're always half in, half out... you're not really anywhere.

That same energy bleeds into your work. Your relationships. Your creativity. Your clarity.

Presence Is Strategy (Yes, Even in Business)

So often we search for the perfect strategy. The right content formula. The best event framework. The proven business model.

But we forget something critical:

✨ Your presence is the strategy. ✨

When you are fully present with your clients, your audience, or your community—they feel it. And when people feel seen, safe, and truly held, they buy. They stay. They become raving fans for life.

Whether it’s a one-on-one session, a live event, or a group Zoom call—your energy is either anchoring the room or floating out the door. And people know the difference.

How to Bring More Presence into Your Events: Practical Tips

Here are some tangible, soul-led ways to infuse your events with deeper presence and connection:

1. Simplify Your Structure

A well-thought-out structure creates freedom. Plan your run sheet, your touchpoints, and your goals in advance—so you can drop into presence during the event, instead of managing chaos.

2. Open with Stillness

Start with a grounding moment. A breathwork practice, a moment of silence, or a simple guided intention helps your attendees land in the space—and signals your energy as a calm, held presence.

3. Create Emotional Safety

Let people know what to expect. Be transparent about timing, flow, and the nature of the space. When people feel safe, they’re more likely to engage, open up, and receive.

4. Ditch the Script

Have your content ready, but leave space for magic. The best moments in live events often come from unexpected shares or intuitive pivots. Your presence allows that to flow naturally.

5. Use All the Senses

Presence isn’t just about words. It’s about tone, visuals, energy, and experience. Think: music, candles, calming backgrounds, scent, visuals that reflect your brand and intention.

6. Invite Real Connection

Encourage small group breakouts, journaling reflections, or partner shares. The more people participate from their heart, the more anchored the event becomes.

7. Close with Intention

Wrap your event not with a rush, but with reflection. Acknowledge the transformation, set a closing ritual, and invite the next aligned step.

From Motherhood to Marketing: The Thread That Connects

It’s no coincidence that what healed and grounded me as a mother this weekend—presence— is the same energy that builds businesses sustainably.

So many women in business are chasing success in a way that fragments them. They’re growing their audience, booking out their calendar, ticking all the boxes... but inside, they feel disconnected.

From themselves.

From their mission.

From their people.

And honestly? From the joy that originally sparked the whole damn thing.

What Are We Really Searching For?

My sister Diane (who always seems to be in sync with me) posted something that truly landed for me. After a long trip away, she too found herself leaning back into presence—with her kids, her husband, herself.

She wrote:

"Maybe what we’re all searching for is just a few more nights by the fire, a few more stars overhead, and a little less time with our heads down.”

And I felt that in my bones.

Maybe we’re not craving more sales scripts or productivity hacks.

Maybe we’re craving presence. Connection. Intimacy. Ease.

And that, my love, is where your most powerful strategy begins.

What’s Next: Leaning Into Soul-Led Strategy

If you're craving more moments like this—not just in your home, but in your brand, your work, your community—know that there’s a different way to grow.

You don’t have to sacrifice presence for performance.

You don’t have to choose between soul and strategy.

You can build a business that feels like home.
